As a Certified Travel Associate you will follow carefully thought out procedures that will enable you to render professional service from the start. Traveler Profile The first step is
to set up computer profile forms for each of your clients. What are their
travel preferences? What airline do they like, where do they like to sit and
what are their frequent flier numbers? Do they have preferences regarding
hotels and car rental companies? What credit cards and numbers will you
charge their travel to? What are the names and ages of members of their
family? Booking Air Travel Each time you book air travel you transfer the information from the traveler's computer profile record to a travel record and then search the SABRE™ data base to find the least expensive fare and the flights that satisfies the traveler's requirements and preferences. After obtaining approval from the traveler, you book the flights. Within a few minutes a fax showing the traveler's complete itinerary along with confirmation numbers and seat assignments is received from Certified Travel headquarters. The faxed itinerary is then given to the traveler for use in securing boarding passes at the airport. Hotels and Cars After booking air
travel you can use your computer SABRE™ system to book a rental car and
hotel room if required. In addition to the SABRE™ system, the Hotel and
Travel Index is provided for your use. This manual has information on
virtually any hotel anywhere - even city maps showing the hotel's location.
The faxed itinerary you receive from headquarters will include the hotel and
car bookings you have made along with the air itinerary. Vacation Planning Many people think the best part of being a travel agent is being able to help people plan their vacations. The Vacation Planning Worksheet guides you through the process. First you must "qualify" your client - What are his interests? Does he prefer sand and sun or mountains? Does he want a conducted tour or would he prefer to do his own thing?" Would he like an all-inclusive vacation or prefer to secure meals, entertainment, etc. on his own? Does he have destination preferences? Would he be interested in a cruise? What is his vacation budget? With this information, you are prepared to consult your Official Tour Directory and your extensive library of travel brochures (all included in your start up package) to find a suitable vacation. The final step is the presentation of your findings to your client. The way you go about presenting your ideas and your ability to "close the sale" will determine the final outcome! |
